In a recent meeting with a colleague she pointed out that I crossed her mind recently because of the launch of Keystone Augusta. She said that she was impressed that I actually followed through on what I said I was going to, just like the railway film I raised money for.
I firmly believe that setting a goal, telling it to a few people and then executing is the surest way to build a reputation for doing what you say you will because eventually you are going to set a goal to do something major, like build a million dollar company, and there will be a group of people who will not doubt you.
That group will become a positive influence because they will support you, egg you on and provide support even while others are doubting you and giving all the reasons why you cannot achieve the goal you set out to achieve.
It was the same reason why I presented in August this year at Kingston Beta about launching the RealVibez iPhone app in September.
When I presented, I used mock-up screenshots to show what the app would like – we didn’t even have a working prototype. All I had were commitments from entertainers like Cezar and Wayne Marshall, some capital and the drive to get it done. We didn’t even have Apple Developer status at that time as Random Media was still undergoing the approval process but I was confident we would get through (we already were approved for iBooks months earlier).
We launched on schedule and with no hiccups at all.
Start with small goals. Make them public, execute and make sure your execution is public as well.
It can only be good for you to establish a reputation for accomplishing the goals you set out to accomplish. You come across as serious and trustworthy; things which help you raise capital later on for larger projects.
